The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office requested aggravation of the punishment and the imposition of life imprisonment without parole for the two who killed an elderly family and cut their bodies near Negovan. This was announced by the press center of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office.
With a verdict dated 15.08.2024, based on the indictment of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SGP), the Sofia City Court (SGS) found the defendants P. Sh. and G. N. target and sentenced each of the two to life imprisonment.
The indictment was submitted to the court by the SGP on 09.02.2021. The investigation into the case was conducted by the SDVR under the direction and supervision of the SGP.
The court ruled in its verdict that on 14.07.2019, between 11:30 and 12:00, in an apartment in the city of Sofia on “Vitosha” Blvd., the defendant P. Sh. killed M. A. and Y. A., by shooting them with a pistol in the head area. The perpetrator of the murder, P. Sh., was deliberately induced by G. N., who, using his awareness of the financial and property status of the victims, in the period from July 5 to 14, 2019 convinced P. Sh. that the victims kept money and valuables in their apartment, which the defendants could take after killing them. G. N. promised P. Sh. to provide him with help after the murder Sh. shot the victims, the two defendants dismembered their bodies together, bought three plastic cans and plastic bags to put the corpses in, transported them in a “Jeep” car, model “Grand Cherokee” and dumped them in and around a reservoir in the land of the village of Negovan, municipality of Stolichna. The act of the two defendants was carried out deliberately and with a selfish purpose – the accomplices were to acquire the funds available in the residence, as well as other items – stamps and philatelic articles, coins, watches and jewelry with a total value of BGN 10,959.87.
The court acquitted the defendants for the fact that their self-interest specifically covered the confiscation of the sum of 87,000 euros.
For the murder, the court sentenced each of the defendants to life imprisonment with an initial special regime of serving.
The court also found the defendant P.Sh. to be guilty of acquiring two pistols, a four-charge shooting device and a total of 68 guns in the office premises used by him in the building of a capital university until 29/08/2019. cartridges without proper authorization, for which he was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.
On the basis of Art. 23, para. 1 NC the court imposed on the defendant P. Sh. the heaviest of the two punishments, namely – life imprisonment.
The defendants were ordered to jointly pay a total of BGN 350,000 in compensation for non-property damages suffered by the civil plaintiffs, as well as BGN 1,892 in compensation for property damages suffered by one of them.
The first-instance verdict of the SGS is not final and is subject to appeal and protest before the Court of Appeal – Sofia.
The SGP filed a protest, with which it requested that the punishment be aggravated and the most severe one be imposed on each of the defendants, namely – life imprisonment without parole, as well as that they be found guilty regarding the fact that their purpose also included the sum of 87,000 euros .
