Criticizing the prolongation of anti-quota students’ agitation, BCL Central President Saddam Hussain said that an immediate solution to the quota issue has been achieved through the court order. Yet public suffering is being created for political attention.

He said this in a press conference in front of Madhur canteen of Dhaka University on Saturday (July 13) afternoon.

Saddam Hussain asked the protesting students and said, ‘What do they really want now? Do they want to be jobbers, or do they want to be activists?’

Saddam Hossain said that the issue of quota reform is not a matter of immediate decision. It is a matter of policy-discussion.

Top leaders of BCL said in the press conference that proposals will be collected from students on the issue of quota in government jobs. Besides, they will distribute leaflets containing various information, open discussions and campaign to avoid public grievances.

Saddam Hussain said, movement is going on in Shahbagh for seeking political attention. Suffering is being created. This quota movement has been transformed into a political movement. Terrorists get together here. We also saw Chhatra Dal cadres there.

He also said that knocking people is not a sign of talent. Their main aim is to implement political agenda. They are implementing the political agenda of BNP-Jamaat. The agitators look like they are living in a fool’s paradise, not a genius’ paradise.

Saddam Hossain said, thank those who accepted the court’s decision and returned home. Professional agitators are still on the streets. They are playing Blockade Blockade game. They are protesting even after the 2018 circular was reinstated. Changing words from time to time. Demands are changing. Do they want to be jobbers or activists? You have to know that.

It (quota reform) is not a matter of spot decision. There is a rule. Today, those who claim to be talented, do they know about the judiciary, the executive department?

Referring to the propaganda being spread about the quota, Saddam said, “They have no say in bringing women forward.” Since 2018, women’s participation has decreased due to lack of quota. The number of ethnic minorities has also decreased. People in several districts did not get jobs. Moreover, in 2018, none of the agitators could clear the BCS exam.

Dhaka University Branch Chhatra League President Mazharul Kabir Shayan and General Secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat were next to Saddam Hossain and Wali Asif in the press conference. With a view to logical and positive resolution of the situation arising out of the quota, any opinion of the students can be submitted in written form to the Central Office of the Chhatra League (23, Bangabandhu Avenue) or [email protected]The call to send to this e-mail address is from the press conference.
