They want to develop the use of Martinican plants in cosmetics

“When I started to sell my brand alone, I would have liked to be accompanied like that”, regrets Shirley Billot, Founder of the Kadalys brand. It is a cosmetic brand based on banana tree active ingredients. More than 10 years after its creation, it exports its products internationally and has a laboratory where other natural elements can be studied to find out their usefulness in cosmetics.

A branch of Cosmetic Valley is open in Martinique. It is a competitiveness cluster for the perfumery/cosmetics sector created on the initiative of Jean-Paul Guerlain. On the island, the cosmetics sector is developing and is seeing the birth of brands that incorporate local products. “A laboratory will open and will be made available to research to make the best use of our local products”, rejoices Serge Letchimy, president of the Executive Council of the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique. This laboratory will be built in Le Lamentin very soon.

Research on the active ingredients of fruits and vegetables

“This will allow us to work together and take steps forward,” says Severine Moustin, founder of S Industry cosmetics. She made her make-up brand with a Martinican identity. The young woman is curious to see how she can develop her business by adding Martinican cosmetopé products.

Research on the active ingredients of Martinican fruits, vegetables and plants is already well underway by the Martinique agro-resource and research center (PARM). Project leaders approach this center in order to carry out certain research. The PARM also has a list of the benefits of local products. This list is not communicated.

“The objective of Cosmetic Valley is above all to bring out new cosmetic companies in Martinique and make it, why not, a pioneer in local cosmetics”, aims Marc-Antoine Jamet, president of Cosmetic Valley.
