The day

Bolsonaro denies having determined fraud on his vaccine card

the former president Jair Bolsonaro
(PL) declared that there were no reasons for his arrest, but alleged that “important” people were discussing arresting him even before the end of his term, aiming at a milder prison just to label him as an ex-convict. The statements were given in an interview with Veja magazine, published this Friday (19).

Bolsonaro is facing at least 24 actions and inquiries
including investigations into his alleged involvement in the January 8 coup acts, the issue of saudi jewelry
brought by the Saudi Arabian presidential entourage and the actions of a group that allegedly entered false vaccination data against Covid-19 into the systems of Ministry of Health
.

undemocratic acts

When talking about the case of former Bolivian president Jeanine Áñez, arrested and convicted of anti-democratic acts, Bolsonaro denied fearing a similar situation in Brazil.

“To have any reason to justify this, I would need to have done at least 10% of what he did. And I did nothing. Some important people, I won’t reveal the names, already spoke before the end of the government that they wanted to arrest me. A milder prison, just to label me as an ex-convict,” Bolsonaro said.

The former president said he expected persecution after leaving office, but not in the way it has happened.

“People are searching everything around me. I expected persecution, but not in this way. On Tuesday, I had barely left the Federal Police building and a copy of my statement was already on television. It is disrespectful. My circle of friends trust has been monitored since 2021. Why did they break Colonel Cid’s secrecy? To get to me,” he said.

During the interview, Bolsonaro said he believed that “someone screwed up” in the case of false vaccination certificates, but defended Mauro Cid, his former assistant, arrested this month on suspicion of involvement in the scheme.

“It was the Army command at the time who appointed him, but he served me very well. I never had reason to distrust him, and I don’t want to accuse him of anything. I have a special affection for him. He is the son of a general in my class. , I consider him like a son,” he said.

Regarding the conversations between him and the former aide-de-camp, after the completion of the expertise on the seized cell phones, Bolsonaro said he was not afraid that the investigators would find anything compromising.

“When you talk about compromising, people immediately think of money, of something illicit. There is none of that, absolutely nothing. Now, there are exchanges of messages in informal language, there are profanity. Certainly there are conversations involving state secrets. this would certainly be detrimental to national security,” Bolsonaro said.

The former president also criticized the way the investigations are being conducted, claiming that there is persecution and selectivity in the choice of targets.

“There are other politicians with much more reason to be investigated, but they are not touched. It seems that the crosshairs are always on me and those who have been by my side,” he said.

Bolsonaro also reiterated his trust in justice and said he will face all charges fairly and legally.

“I believe in Justice, I believe that the truth will prevail. If there is something that justifies an arrest, I will answer for it. But I do not accept being politically persecuted or having my image unfairly defamed”, he pointed out.

The former president ended the interview by stating that he is prepared for any outcome and that, if necessary, he is willing to become one “martyr”
in defense of their convictions.

“I’m not above the law, but I’m not below it either. If I’m going to be arrested for defending what I believe, so be it. I’m willing to pay the price. They won’t silence my voice or take away my courage to fight for the Brazil,” concluded Bolsonaro.
