According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), these species are in danger of extinction. Some, such as the hammerhead shark, the bull shark or the thresher, are in the “near threatened” categories.
Oceana’s Research and Public Policy coordinator in the country, Esteban García-Peña Valenzuela, told 24 HOURS Yucatan that the situation in the entity is similar to what happens in the center of the country regarding the fact that cod is an imported product.
