Neighbors of Morazán in the jurisdiction of Monjas, Jalapa, denounced the closure and blockade of a highway this Saturday, June 24, where there is already a presence of the National Police (PNC).

The Minister of the Interior, Napoleón Barrientos, confirmed that an alert was received about “armed people who are trying to prevent the free movement of people” and confirmed that PNC units were sent to protect order.

“It has already been ordered for units to move to the area and incite people to put an end to this attitude of violence and provocation and we are going to follow it up,” said the official regarding the case in the eastern region of the country.

Local media report that the incident occurred during the morning of this Saturday, when a local candidate promoted the closure of the highway to “prevent the hauling of voters”, but the climate became tense.

One of the disagreements was due to a group that arrived by bus at one of the entrances to the municipality of Morazán, according to reports.

Another report received by the PNC was about an alleged explosive device located in the village of San Alfonso, municipality of San Martín Zapotitlán, Retalhuleu.

“The explosive units go to the place, they are determining what it is about. The important thing is that until now there has not been a registered act of violence,” Barrientos declared regarding the alert.

The official indicated that the object was found “it is seen in some bushes in videos that have been sent to us”, but the veracity of the fact is being analyzed.

Security

The head of the Interior indicated that so far other reports are being monitored and there are 28 teams that monitor with drones the areas in municipalities where a higher “probability level of electoral conflict” was identified, he said during a press conference, from the center of monitoring that works from the General Directorate of the PNC.

In addition, the official said that they have a helicopter that is ready to deal with other incidents.

Barrientos recalled the entry into force of the dry law starting at 12 noon this Saturday, June 24, which runs until 6 a.m. on Monday the 26th.
