The President of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, congratulated Magomed Ramazanov, who brought the Olympic title to Bulgaria, and other athletes with distinctions from Paris, born in the republic of the Russian Federation.
In freestyle wrestling, in addition to Ramazanov, Razambek Zhamalov (Uzbekistan) and Ahmed Tajudinov (Bahrain), Dauren Kurugliev (Greece) and Magomedkhan Magomedov (Azerbaijan) won bronze. In taekwondo, Gashim Magomedov (Azerbaijan) won silver.
“Today, Dagestan is enjoying the victories of our athletes at the Olympic Games. And although the boys performed in Paris under the flags of other countries, we know where their path to the highest steps began. Each of them tempered their character in the wrestling schools of Dagestan and improved their skills in sparring with the strongest opponents.
Their results show that they were afraid of us for good reason! And apparently there is truth in the joke spread on social networks: “Dagestan surpassed entire countries in the number of freestyle champions.” Can you imagine what the results would be like if other famous wrestlers of ours participated in the Olympics?
Dagestanis have no equal in this sport, so the fear of them is understandable. But nothing can justify the decisions of the IOC, which contradict the basic principles of sport. I repeat again – such actions only prove the weakness of those who commit them!
Congratulations to our champions, for their bright and confident victories. And to those wrestlers, whose path to the Olympics was closed, I will say: “For us, you are also champions!”.
In July, the Russian Federation refused to send its athletes to the Olympics. The reason was the decision of the IOC, which allowed 10 Russian wrestlers to participate in a neutral status, but did not include several leaders of the national team in the list.
