The National Institute of Migration (INM) reported this Sunday that it will compensate the families of the 40 migrants who died in the fire at an immigration station on March 27 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua with 140 million pesos.

Meanwhile, the INM assured that the process of accompanying the 27 migrants who were injured is maintained.

On the other hand, the agency indicated that after the fire, it supervised all immigration stays and began to apply civil protection measures, such as the installation of emergency doors, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, among others.

It also formally ordered all INM authorities to abide by the resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to resolve, within a period of no more than 36 hours, the immigration status of foreigners.

Currently, of the 54 offices that the INM has in Mexico, 17 immigration stations are still open with 3,791 spaces, which constitute 73% of the total installed capacity.

“Supervisory visits to migration stations and provisional stays will continue, in order to verify that their operation and functioning is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Migration Law and its regulations,” the agency stated.
