ADEX and the embassy of the United Kingdom in Peru, through activities commercial, cultural and academic that promote the rapprochement between producers, researchers, scientists, businessmen, entrepreneurs and authorities of both countries.

In order to foster bilateral exchange between Peru and the United Kingdom and promote the development and sustainability of national export chains, the Association of Exporters (ADEX) and the British Embassy in Lima signed a cooperation agreement that contemplates a series of actions aimed at to achieve the objectives set.

The agreement was signed by the president of the business union, Julio Pérez Alván, and the British ambassador in Peru, Gavin Cook, who expressed their commitment to carry out this strategic alliance.

Areas of cooperation

The agreement will have different areas of collaboration, such as holding commercial, cultural and academic events that promote rapprochement between producers, researchers, scientists, businessmen, entrepreneurs and authorities from the various export sectors of the United Kingdom and Peru.

Likewise, technical assistance will be provided on issues of technological innovation and optimization of resources for export sustainability, the rapprochement of companies, suppliers and associations will be encouraged and advice will be provided on entering green and sustainable markets.

Academic, training and training activities will also be carried out in the priority areas determined by both institutions and the organization of continuous training seminars and advice on the ‘Chevening’ scholarships from the British government will be promoted.

It should be noted that after registering a -7% drop in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Peruvian exports to the United Kingdom registered an increase of 217% in 2021 and 53% in 2022, when they amounted to the US $2 thousand 059 million 907 thousand. The traditional supply (US$ 1,660 million 711 thousand) concentrated 80.6% of the total and grew 81.4%, while the non-traditional supply (US$ 399 million 196 thousand) grouped 19.4% and fell -7.1%.

It should be noted that, of all the activities, agribusiness, textiles, clothing, wood and ‘various’ contracted their demand last year with rates of -13%, -27.7%, -6.5%, -48.1% and -2.2%, respectively.
