Thiago Monteiro Pulls Off Impressive Comeback Victory Over Tomás Macháč at ATP 250 in Umag

by time news

Thiago Monteiro achieved another great victory this Monday (22), coming from behind to defeat the Czech Tomás Machac (39th in the world) in the first round of the ATP 250 in Umag, Croatia.

After the match, the Brazilian, who reached the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 in Bastad last week, valued yet another significant result in the season “Today’s match was quite tough. Machac is a solid player, well established in the top 50, so I knew it would be difficult and in slower conditions. At the same time, I felt good. In the beginning, he was very steady, but then I started looking for solutions to turn the match around. It was very positive and a lot of personal overcoming, always fighting and believing, especially after a tough week in Bastad. It gives me a lot of confidence,” said the world number 79.

Monteiro, who competed in Mallorca and Wimbledon on grass, and then moved on to the clay court circuit, starting with the Challenger in Salzburg and then heading to the ATP 250 in Bastad and Umag, highlighted that he is in good physical shape. “It has been four weeks with four completely different conditions and always arriving last minute. I think I am managing to keep my body healthy, which is the most important thing, and also always well-prepared, even with few days of adaptation between tournaments,” he continued.

Thiago’s next opponent will be the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, ranked 49th. This will be the first duel between the Brazilian and the Hungarian and takes place this Tuesday (23). “I play tomorrow and it will be another tough match, but I am feeling good. Now it’s time to recover and prepare to have a good second round,” he concluded.
