Thikkodi Murder: A young man who set a woman on fire with petrol in Thikkodi also died

Kozhikode: Nandakumar alias Nandakumar (31), who tried to commit suicide after pouring petrol on a woman and setting her on fire in Thikkodi, Kozhikode, died due to love despair. Thikkodi is the son of Mohanan, a native of Pallithazham. Nandu was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital with 99% burns. The death occurred this morning.

Krishnapriya, a temporary employee of Thikkodi panchayath, was set on fire by Nandakumar yesterday. After this, Nandakumar also tried to commit suicide. Relatives said Nandu had been harassing Krishnapriya for a long time. The incident took place in front of Thikkodi panchayat office at 9.50 am yesterday. Nandu was on his way to work at the Krishnapriya panchayat office when he was stopped and poured petrol and set on fire. The fire was put out by the staff and locals who heard the screams.

They were rushed to Koyilandy Taluk Hospital. He was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for specialist treatment but died at around 5 pm. Krishnapriya had given a statement at the hospital that Nandu had stabbed himself before the fire. The woman was rushed to hospital with 90 per cent burns.

Nandu, who had been acquainted with Krishnapriya for a long time, was recently harassed by the girl, family members and neighbors said. He had given instructions on how to dress and tie the hair. He also recently confiscated the girl’s phone. He had come home the previous day and threatened the girl and her father. Locals said they did not lodge a complaint with the police for fear of libel. Krishnapriya joined the panchayat office last week as a project assistant on a contract basis.
