Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg is the mayor who two days ago was reportedly detained for questioning on suspicion of breach of trust, extortion, bribery and conspiracy to commit a crime.

This morning (Wednesday) Greenberg chose to post a message on his Facebook page in which he announced that he was the one called for questioning this week: “I have nothing to hide and I am convinced that at the end of the investigation things will become clear.”

“As part of my commitment to you and in light of the rumors, it is important for me to share with you the details that are given. On Monday morning I was asked to come independently for questioning on a particular issue.

He said: “Unfortunately in the public mission there are a lot of intrigues, hatred for no reason and a desire of competitors just to stumble.”

Demanded the dismissal of his opponents as a condition of transferring a budget

As you may recall, the police investigation began about a year ago following a complaint that a public figure demanded their dismissal from work, or removal from office of his opponents, or their family members, and made this a condition for transferring budgets to institutions that employ them and are budgeted by the authority. The three associates of the public figure are suspected of having acted on his mission, in order to realize his will and intentions. The investigation is accompanied by the Economic Department of the State Attorney’s Office.

The police said that “the Israel Police will continue to operate wherever there is a suspicion of public corruption, which violates the rules of government and will investigate in order to expose improper processes, reach out to investigate the truth and prosecute the perpetrators.”
