“As the iman said, this is a special day not only for the Muslim community but for all other religious communities as well. We are commemorating a divine act performed by Prophet Ibrahim, whom others call Abraham, who showed his love and belief in the Almighty Lord. God told him to go and sacrifice his only son and he wanted to do it. Because he believes in God, he loves God, he wanted to do this act, an act that I wonder if many can accomplish today. But God showed as the iman said that a man is not to be slaughtered, that one cannot kill a man, God recommends us never to kill a man and God replaced this son by a beast he immolated. So, this act that we came to witness. It is also a celebration that reminds us of the spirit of sharing because the animals that we are going to sacrifice today, the meat, are to be shared between members of our families, our friends and the poor. It is therefore a celebration not only for Muslims, but a celebration for the entire population of Benin. I wish everyone a happy holiday.”
