Reportedly, Japan has the most powerful passport in the world. This report is based on the 2023 estimate. A Japan passport holder can travel to 193 countries without a visa. For the past five years, Japan’s passport has remained at the top of the list.

As of 2021, there are only 24 million Japanese passport holders worldwide. This means that less than 20 percent of Japan’s total population owns a passport.

Singapore and South Korea are second in the list of strongest passports in the world. Third place goes to Germany and Spain. Fourth place was shared by Finland, Italy and Luxembourg. Australia, Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden are in fifth place.

The United States is among the top 22 countries. An American passport allows visa-free travel to 186 destinations. India is ranked 85th among the most powerful passports. An Indian passport holder can travel to 59 countries including Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Egypt etc. without a visa.

The worst passport is from Afghanistan. Those from Iraq, Syria and Pakistan are also considered as bad passports.
