From October 1, Facebook has announced that it will stop the local features called Neighborhoods.

Metta’s Facebook first introduced its hyperlocal (local features) program called ‘Neighbourhoods’ in countries like Canada and the US in 2022. The site helps people connect with their neighbors and locals. Also, discover new places in the county and be part of the local community. A facility option to join this service and create a profile is provided on Facebook.

But it was said that the plan was not widely rolled out, possibly a sign of establishing a Neighborhood feature. No clear answer or reason has been given by the Meta side.

Also, recently Facebook has been focusing on how to cut costs. As such, Neighborhood’s shutdown is said to not cause much backlash from users or the company’s stakeholders.

“When we launched Neighborhood, our mission was to bring local communities closer together, and we learned the best way to do this is through groups,” Facebook said in a statement about Neighborhoods, adding that the service will no longer exist starting October 1.
