Düsseldorf green roofs have a lot of advantages for nature and people. They improve the urban climate and provide habitat for insects. But property owners themselves also benefit from the planting, because green roofs are more durable than conventional flat roofs. Greening protects the roof membrane and reduces wear and tear. In addition, the plant layer stores rainwater and can thus prevent flooding in heavy rain.
If you are toying with the idea of greening your roof, it is best to find out about funding opportunities early on. The federal and state governments as well as many local authorities offer different funding programs. As a rule, the prerequisite for the grants is that the green roof has not yet been commissioned, but is only in the planning stage.
Private real estate owners should first inquire about current funding opportunities with their municipality, advises Rebecca Gohlke, a consultant at the Federal Green Building Association. “Municipal funding programs are aimed in particular at private individuals, so that smaller green roofs, for example carports or garages, can also be funded,” she says.
