Pentecost has arrived, and every year the harvest of the firstfruits is celebrated, and most people eat plenty of dairy delicacies as befits the festive white holiday. It’s almost impossible to say weeks without mentioning Sarah SharonThe Israeli singer who became the classic symbol of the songs of the Land of Israel, alone or in a choir.
Sharon began her career at Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov Ihud, and worked as a teacher in a profession she loves so much – music of course. In 1978, when the Jordan Valley Singing Club was established, she was given the role of facilitator of the club. Shortly afterwards, the club’s programs for Israeli television were filmed, and Sharon became a national name in the field of public singing, as if registered in her name.
Since then, as they say, the rest is history. The Israeli audience, thirsty for wonderful sounds, joined the festive singing trend, and the record that Sarahla released with the club choir was a resounding success. In 1993, she won the pre-Eurovision Song Contest with her one-time band ‘Shiro’, a song that reached as far as Ireland and was watched on television screens throughout Europe.
