New Delhi: Today was the last day to file Income Tax Return (ITR) for income earned in the financial year 2023-24. People kept waiting for the deadline to be extended for ITR filing. Their wait remained a wait. There was no update regarding this. However, the government released the data related to how many people filed returns till 7 pm on Wednesday. More than seven crore returns have been filed till 7 pm on Wednesday, the last day of filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2023-24. The Income Tax Department gave this information on the social media platform ‘X’. He wrote, ‘More than seven crore ITRs have been filed so far (31 July). Out of these, more than 50 lakh ITRs have been filed till 7 pm today.’
How many returns were filed for the financial year 2022-23?
The last date for filing income tax returns for taxpayers who do not want to get their accounts audited was July 31. The total number of ITRs filed for assessment year 2023-24 (financial year 2022-23) till July 31, 2023 was over 6.77 crore. More than 64.33 lakh ITRs were filed as on July 31, 2023.
