In a recent statement received by our editorial staff, Gabriel Haba, executive secretary of CNOSCG, commented on the suspension of the prefect of Kankan, Kandia Mara, stressing that it puts an end to an era of tension and intimidation within local governance .
Haba considers this decision to be an essential act for respecting the laws and principles of the rule of law. He made this known this Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the day after this decree was issued by the Minister of Territorial Administration and published on the airwaves of RTG, Radio Télévision Guinéenne.
“This act sends a clear message: no authority, whatever its position, can believe itself to be above the law,” he said. According to him, although the suspension is a step in the right direction, the Kankan prosecutor’s office should have adopted a more proactive posture, taking judicial measures to strengthen the independence of the judicial system.
Haba also highlighted the urgent need to prevent state officials from giving the impression that military power poses a threat to the population. On the contrary, it must be seen as a guarantor of security, in accordance with the commitments of General Mamadi Doumbouya.
This suspension, according to Haba, paves the way for a future where citizens’ rights are respected and justice prevails. He calls on civil society to remain vigilant to ensure that such abuses of power do not happen again.
“Civil society must continue to help the State by ensuring that such acts do not happen again, because it is in collective vigilance that the key to a true rule of law is found,” he said. -he urged.
