This is a setback in the face of a great tragedy; The only place in Ukraine where Russian troops are afraid to approach

by time news

The capture of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was a hot topic in the Ukraine-Russia war. But on February 24, Russian troops captured Chernobyl. But exactly one month later, the army left the area. What could be the reason behind it? The main reason behind the abandonment of Chernobyl by the Russian army is the Red Forest. Remember the nuclear disaster of 1986? The amount of waste generated during the Chernobyl nuclear disaster was ten times more radioactive than the amount of waste generated when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. It must be said that everything, including soil, air and water, is toxic. Even today, people and nature face many problems as a result of that tragedy.

One of the evidences that still exists in nature today is the pine forests to the west of the plant. During the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the tops of four hundred hectares of pine trees in the area turned orange-red. This is because of the intense radiation. This discoloration is what gave the pine forest its Red Forest name. Fears that the radioactive particles would be reactivated if the Red Forest caught fire forced the Russian military to withdraw from the area.

During the disaster, most of the pine trees were cut down as part of the rapid disposal of radioactive waste. The trees were cut down to a depth of three meters and buried in the same soil that had been exposed to radiation. Pine saplings were planted on top of it. After the Chernobyl disaster, the Exclusion Zones or Zone of Alienation came into existence, denying the public access to the area.

The Red Forest is home to some of the world’s most radioactive material. Numerous studies have shown that 90% of the radioactive material in the soil is in the soil. The Russian military has infiltrated the land with the remains of such highly polluted radioactive material. The Red Forest is also an area where even skilled nuclear plant workers are denied access due to the presence of deadly radioactive substances. The assessment was that this was a retreat in the face of a major catastrophe.
