The police has found a mass grave with around 50 corpses in the Shakahola forest in Kenya. They are followers of the sect Good News International Ministries. Apparently, their leader -Paul Mackenzie Nthenge- convinced them that they had to starve to meet Jesus Christ in the kingdom of heaven. The country’s president, William Ruto, has described the events as an act of “terrorism.”

At the moment the local authorities have identified fifty graves. But the evangelical pastor has assured that they will find more than a thousand. This would be the number of people who -according to him- they left to “meet Jesus”. At this time, the exhumation of the lifeless bodies of dozens of faithful who followed the guidelines of the televangelist, which led them directly to death, continues.

The Red Cross delegation in the area has received a complaint from at least 112 people who would have disappeared and they would be susceptible to being Mackenzie’s victims. In the middle of April, the police managed to rescue fifteen people that they had executed this order of deadly fasting by the dangerous shepherd. In fact, four of them could not stand the journey and died on the way to the hospital.

As reported by the Criminal Investigation Directorate (DCI), the leader of the sect had told his followers that if they died of hunger they would go to heaven “as heroes”. “He told them that their mission on earth had come to an end,” she added. The raid was carried out thanks to the tipping off of a group of former faithful of this ‘good news’ church that has brought nothing but death and pain to the families in which it has achieved some adherents.

Dead, suffocated or untreated children

Paul Mackenzie Nthenge had been in the crosshairs of the local authorities for some time. Last March it was arrested in connection with murder of two children. The minors were found dead, after being deprived of food and suffocated by their own parents. They accused the pastor of inciting the parents of the little ones to do so. But he was released on bail.

The man was arrested again on April 15, when four of the followers died that they released during the said raid. According to police investigations, Mackenzie had been instilling in his faithful for years these bizarre ideas about how to get to paradise. He founded -in 2003, as he points out in a blog- his church in the Kenyan city of Malindi, but had to leave. He and his wife were detained several times.

Schools and hospitals, prohibited

The pastor, who -according to some witnesses- called himself a bishop, brainwashed children and adults. I told them that the schools and hospitals were demonic, that they should only read the Bible, and that they had to fast day and night. Thus they would be able to be together with Jesus Christ (die by starvation). In 2019, when he felt cornered by the police, moved his church to the remote area of Shakaholawhere the mass grave has been found.

Previously, both he and his wife had been accused of the death of several minors who were ill and they did not go to the hospital, following his instructions. After the transfer of his church, his followers “voluntarily” settled in his commune to fast until death, on many occasions accompanied by children or babies (who were also to die).

The corpses were buried by a group of people that they would work for the pastor and that they are considered “accomplices”. They did it for money. A payment that the victims themselves advanced before passing away, in search of eternal rest. Mackenzie led them to believe that he had the ability (gift) to speak to God and God had let him know that it was time to go.
