The comeback of the year went differently than expected. Stefan Raab did box against Regina Halmich, but the highlight came later. Here are all the funny and dirty details.

The spectacle is over, the fight is over: Regina Halmich has defeated Stefan Raab in the boxing ring for the third time. Because this result hardly surprised any viewer, Raab was prepared – and announced his TV comeback immediately afterwards. But how exactly did the evening go, how did the 57-year-old fare against the former world champion? You can read about the event here:

10:57 p.m.: Then comes the bombshell: “I want to tell you something, Elton,” Raab turns to the presenter: “I’ve thought: I’m going to do shows again!” The audience in the hall cheers and goes wild. “And I want to tell you something else: we still have an internship position available.”

  • Here are Raab’s TV plans: This will soon be broadcast on RTL

“We don’t want to keep you waiting any longer: It starts next week!” Raab announces a press conference in a few minutes and just wants to “take a quick shower. I’ll explain everything at the press conference.”

10:55 p.m.: Halmich raves about Raab, who, like a true professional, never made contact during the preparation. Raab’s answer: “I’m not a geriatric nurse, I’m an athlete”…

10:53 p.m.: Buschmann announces the result: 60:53, 59:54 and 59:54 – and thus the unanimous winner: Regina Halmich.

10.50 p.m.: “I was really scared of the tattoo you have on your shoulder,” says Raab in his first public words after almost ten years. And further on to apparent low blows: “You hit me on the head a few times,” jokes Raab. “I thought I’d hit her on the head too, but I’m too much of a gentleman for that.”

10.50 p.m.: “When you have someone who weighs so much more, you always have to be careful,” Halmich says to Elton in the ring. “It’s a shame it didn’t last two or three rounds longer.”

6th round: It’s the final round. At the beginning, Raab actually hits with a right. But Halmich doesn’t allow anything else and counters directly. Her left lead hand is her big trump card, and Raab can’t find a way to counter the blow. His opponent hits him in the face again and again. Then it’s over. This has to be a clear, safe victory for Halmich. Raab takes a deep breath and bows to the audience to applause. Halmich comes to the middle of the ring and hugs her opponent. Raab is celebrated by the fans with a standing ovation.

5th round: Halmich goes into the penultimate round with a visible swelling under her right eye. And yet she keeps following up with her right, Raab is only on the defensive. Then she follows up twice with her left, making the TV presenter stagger. But she doesn’t follow up, leaving her opponent in the fight. Nothing should go wrong for the former world champion on points.

4th round: Another hit with Halmich’s left lead hand. Raab’s punches also lack strength and he is still breathing heavily. Then Pütz interrupts because of a supposed low blow. “Can you carry on?” she asks. After a brief consideration (and more heavy breathing), Raab nods. The audience applauds. And Halmich continues to follow up. Raab is saved again by the ring gong.

3rd round: Raab immediately tries to go on the offensive. But Halmich doesn’t allow that and counters himself. Raab is only breathing through his mouth, his defense is barely holding. And Halmich keeps on making pinpricks, a hook here, a straight there. With the ring gong, Halmich hits again with his left lead hand. Halmich also wins the third round. As a reminder: here a former, still trained professional athlete is fighting a 57-year-old, relatively athletic TV presenter.
