The United States Government has offered a million-dollar reward for the criminal band Aragua Trainwhich emerged ten years ago in Venezuela.
This band had its origins in one of the Venezuelan prisons, but today operates in different Latin American countries and in the United States.
Only on July 11, the White House classified the Aragua Train as a transnational organization, considering it a “deadly criminal threat to the region.”
Who are the leaders of the Aragua Train? The United States is looking for them
The United States Treasury Department said that the Tren de Aragua gang is an “important transnational criminal organization,” which is why it imposed economic sanctionss against its members.
For this reason, the State Department announced that rewards would be offered for a total value of 12 million dollars in exchange for information that would allow the location of its three leaders to be determined.
U.S. authorities, in collaboration with Colombian authorities, are searching for:
- Hector Rusthenford Guerrero, alias ‘Warrior Boy’
- Giovanny San Vicente, alias ‘Giovanny’ or ‘Old Man’
- Yohan Jose Romero, alias ‘Johan Petrica’
The three members of the Tren de Aragua gang are accused of “conspiring to participate or attempt to participate in transnational organized crime.”
Currently, two of its leaders are believed to be hiding in some Latin American country, while Yohan Jose Romero, alias “Johan Petrica”, co-founder of the band, could still be in Venezuela.
How does the Aragua Train operate? These are the reasons why it is considered dangerous in the United States
Tren de Aragua is considered a dangerous criminal organization because it is mainly known for human trafficking.,
However, he is also charged with other crimes such as:
- extortion
- kidnapping
- money laundering
- hitman
His illicit empire began in Venezuela, but quickly spread to other countries such as;
- USA
- Bolivia
- Colombia
- Chile
- Peru
- Ecuador
Their modus operandi is based on taking advantage of the millions of Venezuelans fleeing the government of President Nicolás Maduro.
The organization intercepts the flow of migrants to capture their victims and distribute them in transnational networks.
The criminal gang mainly focuses on the sexual exploitation of women and girls migrants in the region.
If they escape, they are saddled with a debt that is almost impossible to repay: “They are killed and their deaths are publicized as a threat to others,” said the U.S. Treasury Department.
