This is how the Hungarian government reacted to the restriction of oil transit in Ukraine 2024-07-23 16:38:10

Hungary will block the payment of EUR 6.5 billion in compensation for the transfer of weapons from the European Peace Framework to Ukraine until Kiev makes it possible again for Lukoil to transport oil through Ukraine to Hungary without interruption – this was also discussed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in an interview with ATV Hírado in an exclusive interview.

An open and honest Hungarian-Slovak alliance was established, as Hungary and Slovakia jointly initiated proceedings against Ukraine at the European Union for violating the association agreement – this is what Péter Szijjártó talked about in his interview with ATV Hírado.

Regarding the fact that Lukoil cannot transport oil through Ukraine, Péter Szijjártó explained: the association agreement between the European Union and Ukraine states that Ukraine cannot completely or partially interrupt the transit of energy carriers through Ukraine to EU member states. The situation now is that the energy supply of two European Union member states, Hungary and Slovakia, is also endangered by the Ukrainians, because 33 percent of crude oil imports here, and about 45 percent for Slovakia, come from Lukoil, Russia via Ukraine.

I think that the European Commission is now in a difficult situation, because Ukraine is breaking an agreement that it had previously concluded with Ukraine, according to the letter. It will be very difficult in Brussels to deny what is the reality here, moreover, the committee has short deadlines at its disposal.
So, added the minister, it must now be made clear whether the European Commission is capable of representing the interests of European countries, especially in such a critical matter.

I also made it clear that as long as this issue is not resolved by Ukraine, everyone should forget about the payment of the 6.5 billion euros in compensation for arms transfers from the European Peace Framework, because what would the payment of 6.5 billion euros look like? we contribute while Ukraine threatens the security of our energy supply.

As he said, of course they are working with Moll on what legal and technical solutions are necessary to ensure the country’s energy supply in the long term if the Ukrainians do not act. – However, this is a crystal clear situation, the European Commission must force Ukraine to allow Lukoil oil deliveries through Ukraine again – emphasized Péter Szijjártó.
