The first episode of “Rita’s World” aired on TV in 1999. That was 25 years ago now. This is how things continued for Gisi aka Franziska Traub after the series.
The story of “Rita’s World” was kept simple. It was about Rita Kruse and her best friend Gisi Weimers, who worked together as cashiers in a supermarket. The series was mostly set in the branch of the fictional supermarket chain Trispa in Cologne-Nippes.
Franziska Traub looks back fondly on that time. In an interview with t-online she once said: “I became more famous with ‘Rita’s World’. It was a great success, like winning the lottery. It was a lot of fun playing the role.” Although she had already filmed before and appeared in the multi-part series “Second Home”, for example, she was better known to the general public as Gisi, she clarified.
She still keeps in touch with her colleagues sometimes. She meets Matthias Komm, who played the baker Matze. She meets regularly with Georg Alfred Wittner, who played the butcher Bernie. She hasn’t seen Gaby Köster for a long time: “Gaby lives in Cologne and I live in Berlin, so we rarely see each other.”
“We last filmed in 2003, that was a long time ago,” Franziska Traub recalled. “Gaby and I were together a lot during that time, it was very friendly, but after that everyone goes their separate ways. When we see each other, it’s affectionate, but we hardly see each other. Gaby also had a stroke, so you have to take time for yourself.”
After the end of “Rita’s World”, Franziska Traub continued acting. Not only on television, but also in the theater. Even before the sitcom, she had acted a lot there, for example in the comedy at the Bayerischer Hof. She also did variety shows and cabaret for many years.
“I’ve always had a broad range of options,” she revealed. In recent years, she has not only been seen in other programs, but also in television films and TV shows. Franziska Traub has been appearing in the medical series “Dr. Nice” since 2023. Today, August 3, the actress celebrates her 62nd birthday.
Series colleague Gaby Köster dared to take on a new project. She went on tour with her live program “Sitcom”. She attracted attention with her stage program. For example, she made jokes about Heidi Klum and her casting show “Germany’s Next Top Model”.
Rita’s husband, Horst Kruse, was played by Frank Vockroth at the time. After “Rita’s World”, the actor appeared in other series and films. He was last seen in “The Public Prosecutor” in 2023.
