EXTRA Mobile Home is a Spanish company dedicated to the construction of luxury mobile and smart prefabricated houses. Recently, the firm has completed a very unique project of two modular homes in Ibiza. We spoke with Alejandro Carrilero, founder and CEO of the company, who explains the ins and outs of KEU Ibiza.
How long does the entire construction process of houses in Ibiza take?
The entire construction process of houses in Ibiza takes approximately two months from start to final delivery. This period encompasses several essential stages, such as the preparation of the plot, the geotechnical study and the foundation. An advantage of our construction model is that work can be carried out indoors and on the plot simultaneously, which significantly reduces delivery time.
What were the challenges of the project?
It has been an intense and, at times, stressful experience. Coordinating various aspects such as the manufacturing of the structure, enclosure, air conditioning, installations, and carpentry in such a tight deadline of 60 days was a challenge. In addition, we had to strictly adhere to the schedule, since there was a deadline to carry out construction on the island, which even led us to have to cut part of the island to transport the materials.
What is the price of these prefabricated houses?
The price of each finished prefabricated house is 90,000 euros plus VAT. It is important to mention that transportation has an additional cost of about 3,500 euros per house.
For what purpose are these homes built?
These houses serve as auxiliary homes to a luxurious villa located in an exclusive cove in the Vistalegre private urbanization in Es Cubells. The KEU Ibiza are on land where the house of Iván Helguera, former Real Madrid footballer, was previously located.
What advantages does this construction method offer?
The main benefit is the cost. Building in Ibiza means depending on 90% of supplies from the peninsula, which increases expenses. In addition, it must be considered that during the months of June to September, building on the island is prohibited.
Are these houses efficient?
Yes, our homes stand out for their efficiency. They have a ventilated façade and systems such as a 100 mm polyurethane core, and high-quality interior finishes. The glasses have gas chambers and are low emissions, and the aluminum carpentry has thermal bridge breakage.
What facilities do they include?
These 45 m2 mobile prefabricated houses, two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom, are equipped with all the facilities that would be expected of an isolated single-family home, complying with the standards of the Technical Building Code (CTE).
What type of finishes do they have?
The finishes are high-end, inspired by the nautical world. Its lacquered walls, floor-to-ceiling doors, large-format porcelain tiles for wet areas and integrated LED lighting systems stand out.
Are the KEU Ibiza mobile?
Yes, they are designed to be relocatable, as they have two axles, four drive wheels and a drawbar at the head to handle them easily.
KEU Mobile has grown rapidly in four years, what is the reason for this success?
Our expansion has been possible thanks to good media coverage, which has allowed us to enter the US market. Soon, we will be opening a distributor in the Miami and Puerto Rico areas.
