After a successful 2023, emerging market securities are also considered a promising investment class this year. Expected interest rate cuts are making the market interesting, they say.
There is great enthusiasm for emerging market bonds. “Emerging market bonds will be an important source of excess returns in the coming years,” wrote the Swiss fund company Pictet recently. Peter Bentley, bond expert at Insight Investment, advises a cautious approach in the current environment. But the asset class can offer real value and opportunity when credit ratings and fundamentals are taken into account.
Didier Lambert, portfolio manager at JP Morgan AM, is also extremely optimistic: “Last year, local currency bonds were one of the best asset classes among bonds.” And this year it will be not dissimilar. “I expect returns of 12 to 15 percent,” he says with conviction.
