The members of “This is It” will perform the song of Ali Mohar, Kobi Asherat and Zvika Noy, “Sixteen years old for a boy”, which was Gabi Shoshan’s big hit.

The song “Sixteen years old for a boy” became a hit from the moment it was released on the radio in 1973. It reached number one on the “Israel” choral parade, and was ranked fifth in that year’s annual parade.

The song marked the beginning of a career for two: Ali Mohar who wrote the song, and Gabi Shoshan who performed it. Mohar, who began his career as a “camp” reporter, became one of the most important songwriters in the country, writing dozens of songs, especially for Arik Einstein, Gidi Gov and Yoni Rechter who was his musical partner, and a major columnist for the “Ha’ir” newspaper. Gabi Shoshan, who became famous mainly as the lead singer of several bands that performed at the time, began thanks to the song a solo career that has known ups and downs ever since.

The song, composed by Kobi Asherat and Zvika Noy, was included on Shoshan’s first album, “Black-Eyed Boy”, which was released in 1973, and later won, almost twenty years after it went on the radio, another performance by the band “Prototype”, to which songwriter Ali Mohar added two more lines.

Tonight (Thursday), members of “This is it”: Shlomo Bar Abba, Gidi Gov, Dov Glickman, Moni Moshonov and Avi Kushnir will perform their own version of the song, in a program that will be broadcast immediately after the “Tonight News” edition.

Listen to the performance of “This is it” to the song “Sixteen years old boy”:

Lyrics:

Sixteen filled the boy and his heart pounded
She was as beautiful as a brick in full
Roses on her cheeks Sun in her hair
Soft curls how white is her neck

And he loved her
And he dreamed of her character
And he wanted to
And so the sweet sadness began
And loneliness stifles laughter

Sixteen filled the boy and his heart pounded
He wrote songs at dawn and whispered her name
The street where she lives wandered for hours
To see her pass with the girlfriends.

He loved her
And he dreamed of her character
And he wanted to
And so the sweet sadness began
And loneliness stifles laughter

She actually studied in the same class
He saw her only occasionally at recess
And so the sweet sadness began
And loneliness stifles laughter

Beautiful girl and boy that’s how it was
A beautiful girl surrounded by light and love
Roses on her cheeks Sun in her hair
Soft curls how white is her neck.

He loved her
And he dreamed of her character
And he wanted to
And so the sweet sadness began
And loneliness stifles laughter

And so the sweet sadness began
And loneliness stifles laughter
