This is my vacation budget. The “Garden Parvis” of La Défense, free summer activities just a stone’s throw from Paris

by time news

It’s hard to imagine a yoga session or a game of pétanque in the heart of the La Défense business district, a stone’s throw from Paris. And yet, a leisure area of 6,000 m² has settled for the summer at the foot of the Grande Arche. Culinary workshops, sports activities, DJ sets… There’s something for everyone at this third edition of the Garden Parvis.

Marie lives very close to the district, in Rueil-Malmaison, in the Hauts-de-Seine. She is on vacation with her daughters aged 5, 7 and 10. “I came to La Défense to enjoy the sun and a change of scenery.says the mother. I saw ads in my city, it’s near my house. There is a little grass, there is entertainment and activities that my children could enjoy.”

Today’s activity is a one hour workshop to create a mosaic. Around the table, a dozen people get down to it. “We have young people from 3 to 17 years old, observes Julia, one of the two facilitators. There are parents who go for an hour’s walk and entrust their children to us, or families who come to spend the day at La Défense.”

Loubna, another mother, comes from Montmagny, in the Val d’Oise. With her two children, she has a very busy afternoon: “We have three activities planned: the mosaic, the workshop to learn not to waste water and then afterwards we’ll eat an ice cream to hydrate ourselves. We’ll do whatever makes the children happy!”

“We feel like we’re on vacation a bit. When we come back in the evening, we feel good.”

Between two activities, it is possible to have a drink or snack, but it is not free. Fadila and her son have planned everything to limit expenses: “We can’t go on vacation anymore. I saw that the activities were free so I took a backpack with a large bottle of water, some sandwiches and we came!”

To take advantage of it, there are only a few days left. The Garden Parvis, largest open air in Île-de-France, breaks camp Friday, August 12.
