A recent report exposed the precarious nutritional conditions faced by pregnant women at the Piti Fajardo Hospital, in the province of Camagüey.

According to stories from hospitalized mothers, the food supply is alarmingly insufficient, reaching points where the rations do not even cover the basic nutritional needs for a person in their condition.

Guelmi Abdul, in a post, appealed to the community for help. “Maternal mothers hospitalized at the Piti Fajardo Hospital, Florida, Camagüey, Cuba write to me. To see if I know any HELP group that brings food to the hospital, since they are HUNGRY”he explained.

Breakfast consists only of three fingers of a glass of milk, and for snack, nothing is offered except to diabetic patients.

Lunch also leaves much to be desired, as it consists of white rice, boiled fish and corn flour soup, the latter dish being not recommended for pregnant women who suffer from high blood pressure.

The situation is worsened considering that many of these women do not have the possibility of receiving daily visits because they live far from the hospital, further limiting their access to adequate nutrition.

Kiriam Vázquez, in a comment on the situation, expressed his indignation and shame towards the regime regarding the care of pregnant women in Camagüey.

“The maternity homes in Camagüey are in the same situation, without any food, the pregnant women deserve everything and many live far away, with the impossibility of receiving daily visits, not to mention the maternity hospital, which also does not have the necessary food or none at all”Vazquez said.

Unfortunately, situations like these occur not only in Camagüey, but also in every corner of the island, where pregnant women are in serious danger due to the poor care they receive.
