Each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends money to millions of beneficiaries, including retired workers and survivors—the children, spouses, widows, widowers, or parents of a deceased beneficiary.
Additionally, it sends disability benefits, such as those from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
As 2023 ends, the SSA has already shared the payment schedule for next year’s benefits. Here is an explanation of the schedule and shipping dates month by month for 2024.
Social Security: what is the final payment schedule for 2024?
According to the SSA schedule, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are sent out on the first day of each month. If the first day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, payment is advanced to the last Friday of the previous month.
On the third day of each month, money is sent to beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997. If the third day falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are also advanced.
For those who collect Social Security benefits (retirees, survivors, or SSDI) and SSI at the same time, the SSI payment is sent on the first day of the month and the Social Security payment is sent on the third day.
The rest of the Social Security checks are sent on Wednesdays, depending on the beneficiaries’ date of birth:
Second Wednesday of the month: retirees with a date of birth between the 1st and 10th Third Wednesday: beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th Fourth Wednesday: retirees born between the 21st and the 31st
If Wednesday is a holiday, payment is advanced to the first business day before.
