Germany’s largest Balenciaga store opened in Hamburg on Monday. And we’ve been in.

All you have to do is clear out the goods and a rave could start here. Stained raw concrete walls, rough metal rods, damaged screed floor – not much can go wrong here. Hard techno would continue into the following afternoon and condensation would drip from the ceiling. And everyone would be really at the limit.

Instead, however, George Michael’s voice ripples from the loudspeakers and well-groomed employees ask about the desire – because such expensive clothes, bags and shoes do not sell themselves. Everything is peaceful here on Neuer Wall, Hamburg’s luxury mile, where on Monday to Munich and Berlin has opened the third German Balenciaga store.

Again designed by the Berlin architectural office Sub, the Hanse-Dependance also evokes associations with subcultural temporary use situations, as we know them from big, rough cities. Hamburger chic or not, this design concept is now the signature aesthetic of all new Balenciaga stores and is currently being installed in every city.

With 540 square meters and two floors including a VIP shopping area, this store is the largest that the luxury brand has ever opened in Germany. And who knows, there might not be a party here at some point, in the case of Balenciaga that would by no means be unthinkable.

Address: Balenciaga, Neuer Wall 20, 20354 Hamburg
