On March 4, the National Association of Actors announced the death of Juan Verduzco, a prominent actor who participated in Mexican television classics such as Toy World and The Rich Also Cry, although he gained recognition among new generations thanks to his funny character of “ Don Camerino” in the series La Familia Peluche, starring and produced by Eugenio Derbez.

After the announcement, social networks were filled with heartfelt messages from users, who laughed or were moved by some of their performances; also of actors who forged a close friendship with Juan Verduzco in television forums. Eugenio Derbez, who worked with him for several years, turned to X to dedicate a message to the actor’s memory:

“What a great honor to meet Juan on stage. Half of Ciudad Peluche is left without “Don Camerino” today. RIP,” he wrote.

Gustavo Adolfo Infante, Laura Zapata, Joaquín López Dóriga, Raquel Garza and Alejandro Tommasi were some entertainment celebrities who spoke out about the death. However, he highlighted an emotional message written by Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo, who worked with Juan Verduzco on one of the projects that elevated his career in the late 80s and early 90s.

“Losing a friend is something very difficult to assimilate… The death of my dear and endearing Juan Verduzco leaves me and all of us who were fortunate enough to know and love him, without the company of an outstanding man,” the actor wrote.

For six years, Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo and Juan Verduzco coincided in Dr. Cándido Pérez, a comedy series considered a classic on Mexican television. The first actor played “Camilo Pérez”, a character who frequently orbited the plot of each episode.

When the project premiered, Juan Verduzco had already established himself as a prominent soap opera actor. After his debut in The Menagerie, important projects followed such as the aforementioned Toy World, The Rich Also Cry and Wild Rose and Pink Shoelaces.

However, Dr. Cándido Pérez was a watershed that boosted his career and placed him in the taste of an older and younger audience that remained glued to the television during the six years that the series was on the air.

In the publication by Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo, a forty-year-old Juan Verduzco poses next to him and the actresses Lupe Velázquez (“Paula Cecilia”) and María Luisa Alcalá (“Claudia Requena”). Without mentioning what year the photograph was taken with part of the cast, the image records one of the most successful times of the actor, who knew how to remain relevant after the end of the project.

One day after the announcement of his death, Juan Verduzco’s family has not clarified the cause of death. There is also no record of any illness that the actor acknowledged suffering from in recent years.
