Berlin – A tunnel for the tram, a new turning loop, a new bus station, an underground water reservoir. The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) have big plans for Schöneweide station. After Deutsche Bahn began redesigning its area nine years ago, the state company also has the excavators up and running. “Construction will start on March 15,” said project manager Timur Öztürkbay. The work, which will also affect traffic, is expected to take almost two and a half years. In the end, the most important local transport hub in the south-east of Berlin will look different than it does today.
