Will Hurricane Ernesto affect Guatemala?

At the international level, the Hurricane Ernesto remains active in the Atlantic Ocean, moving northwest at a speed of approximately 26 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds near 120 km/h, with stronger gusts. According to forecasts of the National Hurricane Center of the Central Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Central Pacific Hurricane Center NOAA― Ernesto is expected to turn toward the north-northwest and then toward the north during the night of Wednesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 15.

Although slower progress is expected on Friday and Saturday, the hurricane is forecast to strengthen in the coming days, with the possibility of becoming a major hurricane by Friday.

Track models do not indicate that Guatemala is in the path of this hurricane or that it will be directly affected. The center of Ernesto is expected to pass near Bermuda on Saturday, which removes any possibility of significant impact on Guatemalan territory. However, Insivumeh is constantly monitoring the evolution of active or potential systems that may arise, both on the Pacific and Atlantic sides.
