This is what you need to know about the new AI playlists

by time news

Spotify has officially launched AI playlists as a new feature in the app. This allows users to easily create new playlists with a prompt. The technology is based on a large language model, similar to ChatGPT, Gemini or others, which allows queries to be written in natural language.

This allows the app to create appropriate playlists based on the users’ wishes, such as Spotify emphasized. Whether users want an “indie-folk playlist that warmly hugs the brain” or a playlist that “makes you feel like you’re the main character,” the new feature is designed to create a suitable playlist.

Playlists can also be based on emojis

The new feature makes it possible to create playlists based on a variety of criteria such as locations, animals, activities, colors or even emojis. However, you’ll get the best results by combining genre, mood, artist and decade.

Editorial recommendations

The account’s personal preferences are also taken into account when creating the playlist. The feature is currently in beta and is only available on Android and iOS devices in the UK and Australia.

German users therefore have to be patient. It is not yet known when the feature will be rolled out to other countries.

This is how you find the new function

If you’re in the UK or Australia, you can find the AI playlist feature in the Spotify mobile app under My Library. There you simply click on the plus button and select “AI Playlist”.

At this point you have the option to enter your own prompt or use one suggested by Spotify. After the playlist has been created, Spotify gives you the option to customize it.

You can remove songs or modify the playlist through AI instructions, for example by specifying that you want to hear “less pop” or “more upbeat music”. The playlist will then be adjusted according to your wishes.
