Popular producer Mustafa Saryar Faruqi. In his production career, he has given many popular dramas and films. Produced long serials like ‘420’ with political stories. Outside of work, he can be seen talking about various contemporary issues. He chose social media to express his thoughts.
Violence has spread in various educational institutions of the country centered around the movement to reform quotas in government jobs. Mustafa Saryar Faruqi presented his thoughts on this. On Wednesday (July 17) at noon, he shed light on several issues with a long status on his Facebook. At the beginning of this article Farooqui said, ‘Those of you who think that the movement is just for a job, you are in fool’s heaven. You notice all its slogans. You see, this movement is for the equality of citizens. This movement is not to live as a third class citizen in your own country.
Mustafa Saryar Faruqi thinks that the state does not care about the people, the ongoing movement is sending that message. In his words – ‘This movement is to remind those who are in power that they are not the owners of the country. The real owner is the people. This movement is also a message against the fact that the state does not care about those people. These activists also understand why the state does not care about the people. That’s why I heard the issue of voting in the form of slogans. This is how I read it.
Farooqi feels that a person on government salary should be called ‘Public Servant’. According to him, ‘Public servant is a good word. Elected (!) representatives or any government salaried person should always be addressed by this term. This movement is trying to remind those public servants that you are accountable to me.’
Referring to the blood of martyrs, Faruqi said, ‘All power to the people. All Power to the Youth. Prayers for my fellow citizens. Martyr’s blood never fails.’
Faruqi explains several footnotes. At the beginning, he said, ‘Personal apology! I wrote this long text, I didn’t actually write it. I verbally said someone transcribed. Those who know about my physical condition, know that; I’m physically not fully recovered yet! As a result my use of social media is limited.’
A few days ago Farooqui deleted the status on Facebook about the quota movement. Explaining the reason, this director said, ‘I removed a status about the quota movement a few days ago. Because, giving a status creates excitement in my head! Later I want to write another thing and the more engaged I am in writing, it is not good for my physical condition.’
‘The battle to heal my body has been a long battle. Surely I can get permission to do that fight? But the unfortunate thing is, since I removed my status till today, many people have written in various online and social media that I am silent because I have become a broker. Now is the danger of social media, you have to prove who you are every day!’ Farooqui said.
Faruqi feels that he is being given the title of ‘broker’ without researching him. In this regard, he said, ‘If they had researched my Facebook posts from the time the state started to come to the state it is in today, they would have understood who I am, what I have said and because of what I say, I am in danger again and again! There is no research, just call it a broker.’
Recalling the incident of Shahbagh movement, Faruqi said, “The binary that is going on today, either you are for me or you are against me. Against this binary I wrote an article in 2014 ‘But and if in search’ which was published in Bangladesh daily. It must be remembered that time was the time of Shahbagh. When the movement started in Shahbagh in 2013, the binary was pushed to the point where it was Razakar who said ‘buts and ifs’. that goat I took that goat tag as a necklace and wrote ‘but and if in search’. A few days ago I said, freedom to question is freedom!”
