The tax authorities will come and ruin the return to school for millions of French people.

Summer, your sleep, your vacations, your quiet daily life… but also, your taxes! July and August are two of the best months to disconnect from the routine. However, he quickly returned to the toilet and went back into the shower. The summer light will be disturbed by bad news: a tax letter. While the summer holidays are still not over, the tax authorities will send documents to 32 million French people, either by paper or directly to the personal site on the tax website.

If the last letter from the General Manager of Public Finances could hide the pleasant surprise with the tax refund, this time, it will not be the case. None of the recipients of this letter will be able to rejoice when reading these few lines. However, you should not miss it, even if the subject of the email is vague. When an email from DGFiP with the subject “New Documents Available” appears in your email box, you will need to open it: it will announce that the property tax notice for 2024 has been sent to you.

Like every year, the tax office sends an invoice at the end of August. The tax administration announces to Linternaute that this will be sent by email on August 28, 2024 or by La Poste between August 28 and September 20 to owners who do not receive monthly payments. This represents 20 million French people, who always choose to pay the bill at once.

Receipt of the letter will not be an immediate order to pay. Taxes for the French have a deadline to be able to pay their property tax. Those who did not pay online will have until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, while those who paid online will have until Sunday, October 20, at 11:59 pm.

For owners who pay monthly, the notice will arrive on September 20 by email or between September 23 and October 9 by La Poste. If the property tax increases, the last monthly payments for October, November and December will increase in order to fill the gap between the 2023 property tax which is the basis for calculating the monthly payments and actual income to be paid for 2024.

This year, the property tax will increase by at least 3.9% for all French people. So, if you pay 500 euros in 2023, the bill will be 519.5 euros this year. It will rise to 1039 euros if you paid 1000 euros last year and to 2078 euros if you paid 2000 euros last year.
