On Friday evening, the British star comedian Ricky Gervais performed in a packed Mercedes-Benz Arena. After the great success of his last stand-up programs “SuperNature” and “Humanity”, Gervais now presented his new show “Armageddon”. Two large red A’s appear on the screens, then the comedian appears from the smoke-lit stage: “One day we’re all going to die,” he says at the start of the show.

The world is only one step away from the end and people bear a great responsibility for this, explains Gervais, who is wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. The risk of nuclear war, new pandemics and environmental disasters could soon put the Earth in an irreparable situation, says Gervais, hence the apocalyptic name of the show. Laughter is the only way out of a sick world.

The 62-year-old, who, in addition to his stand-up career, is also known as a presenter, director, film producer and actor, cracks jokes that can safely be described as provocative. Among other things, he jokes about the Holocaust, the queer scene, cancer patients and pedophilia. “We can’t help our thoughts,” says Gervais. Society is currently “woke,” he says, criticizing the politically correct tone of the current discourse.

Ricky Gervais and his “inclusive” black humor

For 90 minutes he bombards the audience with black humor. No one can escape his jokes because he wants to make his show as “inclusive” as possible. Gervais wants to subtly encourage people to think. There should be no limit to humor.

Ricky Gervais became internationally known for his role in the British series “The Office,” for which he was awarded a Golden Globe in 2004. Gervais hosted the annual award for outstanding achievement in the film and television industry by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association several times. In addition to his stand-up performances, he gained a lot of attention for his TV series “After Life”, which tells the story of a man who tries to find a new meaning in life after the death of his wife through cynical humor and honest, emotional encounters.

“Armageddon” will soon also be broadcast on Netflix. “Probably some jokes won’t be used,” he says during the show in Berlin.

“Armageddon” will be translated into around 160 different languages, he announced a few days before his Berlin appearance. The politically incorrect stand-up comedian is successful. Gervais’ next appearance will take place on December 1st at the Olympiahalle in Munich. His tour is already sold out.
