By the end of this week, the payment of state aid to farmers affected by the fires will begin, said the Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Georgi Takhov in Harmanli. The aid will be de minimis in the amount of 25,000 euros, which is the BGN equivalent of about 49,000 BGN, the minister specified. Farmers who are not registered under Ordinance 3, so-called, will also receive help. “backyards”.
On the outskirts of Harmanli, where the large fire that broke out on Thursday (July 18) in the late afternoon burned the farm with over 250 sheep of the local breeder Ivan Yanakov and his cottage, Dr. Georgi Takhov met with the injured farmer. The minister gave courage to the farmer and assured him that he has the support of the state: “We will help you. I am personally committed. I understand you, I have experienced something similar”, the minister turned to Yanakov.
“Everything that was built over the years burned down. This was my livelihood,” shared the injured breeder.
In response, the minister encouraged him: “You are a young person, you have strength. You will get the main thing right now, because what happened to you takes you out of business,” said Minister Takhov. He assured the farmer that in addition to the financial assistance, he would also receive timber and concrete to rebuild his burnt farm.
“We are in touch with our colleagues and if they are slow with the animals, we will help them as well,” the Minister of Agriculture promised the injured farmer on the occasion of restoring his herd. There are already many farmers in the country who are ready to lend a hand to Ivan Yanakov and have expressed their willingness to give him an animal to start a new life as a livestock breeder.
The man expressed his gratitude to everyone who is trying to help him in this difficult time. In addition to state aid, the Minister of Agriculture promised the animal breeder help in his personal capacity, not as an official.
After the burned area near Harmanli, the minister went to another part of the heavily affected areas in the Haskovo region – those in Sakar Planina, where he will visit a burnt farm with rescued animals in the village of Levka.
“A quick inventory of the damages will be made and we will undertake timely payment of damages, while the order for assistance to natural persons is to be established by a decree of the Ministerial Council,” said Minister Takhov, as quoted by BTA.
