The Government remains on green alert due to the influence of Beryl, which was downgraded to a tropical storm on Friday, and whose indirect influence will bring storm-type rains this weekend, the National Civil Protection Commission reported.

“We are maintaining the green alert. We are still active as institutions of the National Civil Protection System, due to the type of winter we are having,” said the president of the commission, Juan Carlos Bidegain.

The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Fernando López, explained that, after entering Mexican territory, Beryl was downgraded to a tropical storm, maintaining winds of 115 kilometers per hour, with a trajectory that points towards the Gulf of Mexico. “When we have a storm of this type in the north of our country, it brings a lot of rain. We will continue to have thunderstorms in the afternoon, but starting tomorrow (Saturday) we will have a storm.”

Lopez warned that this situation increases the risk of river overflows, flooding (especially in coastal areas), landslides, falling trees or billboards.

In parallel with preparations for the storm, actions continue to be taken to combat disease-transmitting mosquitoes and prevent an increase in cases of dengue, zika and chikungunya.

In this regard, the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, reported that this Friday actions were carried out in 128 colonies, benefiting some 157,000 people. He also detailed that on Thursday health facilities attended to 423 consultations for febrile cases, out of 16,000 that are attended to daily.

The Minister of Health also reported that the number of deaths from dengue remained at three, while the “Benjamín Bloom” National Children’s Hospital has 26 minors admitted with a diagnosis of dengue.
