“This was one of the things I promised when I was appointed to the position of Minister of National Defense, that we have to create a drone “registry” open to the public, so that as many of our people as possible can get at least a basic drone operator course,” – on Tuesday at the Lithuanian Military Academy L. Kasčiūnas spoke at the opening event of the center.

“This year we are talking about 480 drone operators, next year – about a thousand. However, seeing how people are actively registering, we plan to look for ways to increase capacity in the future,” he said.

The minister noted that the greatest interest in drone operator courses is in Vilnius and Kaunas. According to him, some Vilnius residents register for the program in the regions as well. Gintaras Bagdonas, the deputy head of the General Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy, stated that all Lithuanian citizens aged 18 and older who have completed the basic civil resistance program can register for the two-day training.

“The purpose of this course is to strengthen civil society’s ability to resist, to provide knowledge and skills about drones. (…) On the first day, a theoretical course is scheduled, at the end of which participants will have to pass a 40-question test. On the second day, there will be practical sessions that will allow you to learn the basics of controlling drones,” said G. Bagdon.

According to him, drone control training will take place both in stationary courses in Vilnius and in field courses in other cities of the country. Most often, they are scheduled to be held on weekends.

Upon completion of the course, residents will receive a license entitling them to operate drone flights for five years in the open category A1/A3 subcategories, as well as a course completion certificate.

ELTA reminds that at the beginning of August, the first drone training area was opened in Vilnius. The latter area is available to any resident who wants to practice their drone piloting skills.

Then the Deputy Minister of National Defense Kamilė Gogelienė was happy that drone operator courses will also be held in this training area. According to her, when registration for these trainings began on August 1, all September schedules were filled on the same day.
