The tricolor duo climbed on the podium in the mixed doubles category.
The Frenchmen Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue became vice-champions of Europe in badminton, mixed doubles category, on Saturday morning in Madrid, losing in the final against the Germans Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Lohau 2 sets to 1 (16-21, 22 -20, 21-16).
The French, seeded number 2 and 11th in the world, hoped to become the first tricolor crowned champions of Europe, but failed in their quest after battling for 1 hour and 13 minutes against the pair seeded number 4.
With silver, the pair won their first medal in a major international event and achieved an unprecedented result in the history of French mixed badminton.
The French delegation leaves Madrid with two medals, the silver of Gicquel-Delrue being added to the bronze obtained the day before by Toma Popov in men’s singles.
