There were unpleasant scenes after the derby between Düsseldorf and Cologne. The focus was on Fortuna fans and an interview.
Linton Maina from 1. FC Cologne was insulted and had objects thrown at him during a TV interview after the 2:2 draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Sky reporter Thomas Wagner interrupted the conversation with the FC star: “Something is being thrown at Linton.” Then the incensed reporter added: “You have to say, that’s pretty antisocial. You can say that sometimes.”
Chants were said to have been heard in the background: “Every Cologne resident is a son of a bitch.” Effzeh captain Timo Hübers reacted to the spectators’ behavior and said: “There are always one or two crazy people in the stadium.” But they should not be the reason for spoiling the wonderful experience for others, said the central defender.
Cologne was not only the better team, but also took the lead twice thanks to goals from Eric Martel (21st minute) and Maina (61st). Despite this, it was still not enough for a win. Düsseldorf’s Emmanuel Iyoha (25th) and Jona Niemiec (90th +5) had previously scored to give the hosts a point in what was only the fifth Rhine derby between the two clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga.
