Former English cricketer Graham Thorpe has left the country without returning a few days ago. The cricketers will pay tribute to this late cricketer in the Test series between England and Sri Lanka starting today. Along with this, recently retired legendary pacer James Anderson will also be honored.
55-year-old Thorpe died last August 4. His wife Amanda later said that Thorpe had committed suicide. Thorpe worked as England’s assistant coach for a long time before his death. Thorpe will be featured on the big screen at the stadium before the start of the Old Trafford Test. England players will also wear ‘black armbands’ as a symbol of mourning throughout the Test.
Ollie Pope, who led England in this Test, was a pupil of Thorpe. Before entering the field, the Pope said, ‘We will play the whole match wearing black armbands. Tributes will also be given before the start of the match. Most people in the dressing room were shocked by his death. I got him as a batting coach for two-three years. I also respect him as a person.’
Anderson is also getting the honor on this day. This pacer, the highest wicket-taker in Test history, will ring the bell before the start of the match. Anderson’s achievements as an England player will be celebrated in the outfield during the lunch break.
