Barcelona Espanyol continues to suffer. In a match (0-0) without effectiveness, goals or many ideas, Ramis’s team aggravated their situation. After a long Christmas break, the first duel of 2024 was one of the most momentous of the season. Espanyol was three points from the direct promotion positions, where Racing de Ferrol was waiting in the fortress of A Malata. The Galicians, new members of the Second Division, had not yet lost a League game at home this season. Ramis only needed to win to begin to dispel doubts and retread the path that leads to Primera. Cristóbal Parralo, coach of the local team, and Vadillo were reunited with the club in which they once joined forces and which they now wanted to move even further away from salvation. And they did.
Espanyol have been losing their home games lately, and Galicia followed suit. In a fairly decaffeinated first half, Puado was the best, or at least the most determined. Together with Edu Expósito, his changes of pace injected some aggression into a white-and-blues that were combining well enough, but without continuity or sentence. The two Catalans were the only ones to attempt the shot, without much fanfare. Pere Milla, on the other hand, had absolutely everything in his favor to open the can in the 35th minute and beat the defense on the run to receive an impeccable pass from Edu Expósito and dribble past the goalkeeper. But his shot was brushed by Delmás, which caused the ball to hit the crossbar in front of the incredulous look of the striker and everyone present. The ownership of the Lleida was surprising, considering that he has not shown his best version lately.
In the second half, Racing were more comfortable, with Iker Losada as the smartest of the Galicians. However, neither Parralo nor Ramis were gaining ground. Both sets hung, but what’s the point of work if at the end of the day you have nothing to show for it. Pol Lozano got his claws out promptly by trying a long shot that deflected off the home defense. In the final minutes, the home team suffered a couple of scares in their area, but the parrots were running out of time to win the three points that were more than vital to not lose hope. The duel ended without goals, and Espanyol sinks in the classification, outside the positions of play-off.
