State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat said law enforcement was not allowed to shoot, adding that those responsible for the casualties in the violence-conflict would be brought to justice. Not only that, those who have broken the law, committed injustice, will be investigated and brought to justice among the law enforcement agencies.

He said these things at a press conference in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Secretariat on Thursday (August 1).

The state minister said that for every death, we suffer as well as the country and the people of the country. Maybe a third party is taking advantage of it. Death has been misrepresented since the beginning. As you are a part of this loss, we are also a part. As you want it judged, we also want it judged. At the same time, we will bring every person responsible to justice. We didn’t want even one death. Every death hangs heavy on our chest.

He said that police, RAB, BGB and others were not given permission to shoot. They have to work under the constitution and law. So I am not denying that, in particular some have not broken the law on the ground. We will investigate it and bring them to justice.

‘Such things happen in the world. It happened in the US too, you see. Many law enforcement officers break the law. The government does not order them to break the law. But, they made this happen. Our responsibility is to investigate those who have broken the law, committed injustice, and bring them to justice,’ he added.

The state minister said that the law will be applied only to terrorists. Those whose involvement is found subject to concrete evidence, will be arrested. No common student should be harassed. I want to tell the police administration that the students who protested, distributed water, their family members should not be subjected to any kind of harassment. We respect students’ movements, emotions and feelings, we support them. But, capitalizing on their emotions, those who have destroyed it is clear. We want to ensure that no student is disadvantaged. And the terrorists should be brought under the law.

What has happened in the violence is very unfortunate for the nation, especially for the affected families, Mohammad Ali Arafat commented, expressing regret and condemnation for the casualties. According to the announcement of the Prime Minister, a judicial inquiry commission has been formed. They will independently investigate each casualty incident and bring those responsible to justice. If necessary, we will involve foreign experts. Because we want to be completely transparent and accountable here.

“The demands of the student agitators, the terrible devastation caused by a third party entering to serve other purposes, is in front of your eyes. All kinds of destructive activities, including breaking the jail and taking the militants, have these been done by the students? Done by a third party intruder. But they have created a situation in which casualties occur. So that they can hunt fish in murky waters. But, they did not face it directly, they used the students as shields’ said the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.
