Paris: French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has vowed to impose fines on Muslims who wear the hijab in public. Marine Le Pen made the remarks in an interview with RLT Radio ahead of the election. Le Pen said the headscarf will be banned in all public places. This will be enforced just like the law of wearing seat belts in cars. She said it was illegal not to wear a seat belt and that those who wore the hijab would be fined. Just as it is illegal not to wear a seat belt, those who wear the hijab will be fined. Le Pen also said that a number of proposed laws, including a law criminalizing the wearing of the hijab, would be considered, including a constitutional amendment. France forbade the wearing of religious symbols in schools and the wearing of a burqa in public.

Le Pen, 53, was embroiled in an anti-immigrant stance during the campaign. Instead, the emphasis was on economic issues that directly affected the people. Experts say the change has given them more chances. In the last poll, Le Pen narrowed the gap between the current president and his opponent, Emmanuel Macron. Macron received 54 percent support, while Le Pen received 46 percent support.

Emmanuel Macron took a clear lead in the first round of voting on Sunday. Le Pen is predicted to put up a strong fight in the second round. Far-left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon is projected to finish third. Voters are focusing on issues such as the Ukraine war, the Kovid crisis, public health issues and inflation.
