On election day yesterday (Tuesday), the Bureaus of the Population Administration throughout the country issued 2,824 temporary and biometric identity cards.

As I recall, in the run-up to election day, in order to allow the electorate to exercise their right, it was decided in cooperation with the Central Election Commission to open eight Population Administration Offices for the purpose of issuing identity cards to those with the right to vote who have lost their identity card (or had it stolen).

The 8 bureaus that opened their doors last night throughout the country: Modi’in Elit, Beer Sheva, Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, Kfar Saba, Kiryot, Rehovot and Rishon Lezion.

The bureaus provided service from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the bureau in Jerusalem, the public reception was even extended until 8:00 p.m. due to great demand.

A total of 1,462 temporary identity cards were issued and another 1,362 applications for biometric identity cards were received.

Tomer Moskovitz, director of the Population and Immigration Authority: “The Population Authority has committed to issue an identity card to every citizen who will require an identity card for the purpose of voting. Thanks to the hard-working employees of the Authority, who mobilized to work on the Sabbath, we met the task with great success.’
