Thousands of cannabis plants found on Mount Olympus

by time news

Drogen discovery on the highest mountain in Greece: After several months of investigation, the police discovered a cannabis plantation on Mount Olympus.

Investigators found more than 4,000 plants on the slopes of the mountain, Greek State Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) reported on Friday, citing police. Two people were arrested during the action on Thursday.

The find is the second success of Greek drug investigators in a short time: On a mountain near the port city of Volos in central Greece, the police had already discovered and destroyed a cannabis plantation with a good 2,400 plants on Wednesday.

The investigators estimated the market value of the drugs from both plantations at 14 to 20 million euros, the state broadcaster reported.

Greece and Albania are considered to be the areas with the largest cannabis production in Europe. The reason: the plants need a lot of water, and in both countries there are remote areas that can be well irrigated. Numerous springs supply the plantations with water from the surrounding mountains.
